Do you study the Bible or do you read it? In this short video, Eugene Peterson (A Long Obedience In the Same Direction) breaks down the difference between studying and reading.
Do you agree with Peterson’s observations about the difference between understanding what the Bible says and experiencing what it says by becoming immersed in the stories of other people’s interactions with God? Why or why not?
absolutely agree with him. in my bible study yesterday Paul was brought up and how amazing it is that the person who persecuted and killed Christians was the person God used to write the majority of the New Testament –
The people in the Bible are just like us and God continues to see those who He can use as His vessel in this world – thank for sharing !!

I really enjoy the time I have to spend reading the bible, looking things up, referencing. There is a wealth of – life within the pages. Lectio Divina read; meditate; pray; contemplate is what I practice.

I set the goal to read the Bible through each year. In that process, often there are passages where I pause and dig deeper (study). But the reading allows me to see the whole story and discover themes throughout the Bible. It also sharpens my understanding of the cohesiveness of the Bible.

Very true! Reading through the Bible several times in its entirety gives you the ability to see an overview that studying single sections does not allow and broadens context.
