Lies We Believe About Others

Not only do we believe lies about ourselves, but we also believe lies about others. However inaccurately we look at who we are as individuals before God, we look at others just as inaccurately. As a result, we don’t treat other people well at times. Not only do we need God’s help to see ourselves clearly, but we also need His help to see others clearly so we will treat them the way Christ did-kindly, caringly, and graciously. We will examine some of the most destructive ways we look at others.

People can and should meet all of my needs. People can meet some of our needs some of the time. Only God can meet all my needs. Philippians 4:19
Others should accept me just the way I am. People should accept each other but challenge one another to grow. Proverbs 27:17
To get along, everyone needs to think, feel and act the same way. People are God’s masterpieces and designed to be unique Psalm 139:1-3
Others are more messed up than me. All people have significant flaws and defects. Romans 3:23
People who hurt me have to earn my forgiveness. People cannot earn forgiveness, nor should this be required of them. Colossians 3:13


People can’t be trusted. People bear the image of God. Genesis 1:27
Others have more worth or value than me. People are of infinite value to God. 1 Timothy 2:5-6
People only think about themselves. Love hopes for the best from people not the worst. 1 Corinthians 13:7
Others should love and serve me. Love and serve others. Hebrews 13:16
